Stealth Tanks Are Coming

Stealth technology, having revolutionized air warfare, is set to enter the world of ground combat in a big way. On the battlefield of the future, the widespread ability to kill tanks and call down tank-killing firepower makes a tank’s ability to stay undetected the key to survival—and to victory. So future tanks will become more difficult for enemies to detect, playing a cat and mouse game with their opponents by reducing their acoustic, radar, and infrared signatures. The U.S. Navy Is Having a Hell of a Time Dismantling the USS Enterprise

Six years after decommissioning USS Enterprise, the world’s first nuclear-powered aircraft carrier, the U.S. Navy is still figuring out how to safely dismantle the ship. The General Accounting Office estimates the cost of taking apart the vessel and sending the reactors to a nuclear waste storage facility at up to $1.5 billion, or about one-eighth the cost of a brand-new aircraft carrier. The USS Enterprise was commissioned in 1961 to be the centerpiece of a nuclear-powered carrier task force, Task Force One, that could sail around the...

Bad Weather ‘Stormbreaker’ Bomb Enters Testing

The U.S. military’s new “Stormbreaker” guided bomb has entered operational testing and could be ready for service as early as next year. In 2005 a new bomb entered U.S. military service: the GBU-39 Small Diameter Bomb (SDB). The SDB weighs 285 pounds and is just 5.9 feet long and is equipped with glide fins and a GPS guidance system, giving it...

An international consortium of companies plans to salvage the gold. According to the Telegraph, the Donskoi was found less than a mile off the coast of Ulleung island, at a depth of 1,423 feet in the Sea of Japan. A submersible descended to...

Navy’s Next Fighter Jets

The announcement of the United Kingdom’s new Tempest fighter project marks yet another new fighter program set to delivery in the 2030s. In addition to Tempest, a new Japanese fighter, a Franco-German project, and whatever China and Russia are surely working on, the United States has not one but two fighter jets. These two programs will probably stay separate and turn into separate planes thanks to the miserable experience of the F-35. A new article by DefenseNews breaks down what is known and unknown about the new two...
